- Running north and south through the City is the Broad Street Subway; the Market-Frankford subway El runs east and west; transfer between them is free at the 15th Street Station (City Hall) and at 30th Street Station. (It is easier for beginners to change at the 30th Street Station); to get to Center City from the campus, take any of the subway surface lines (trolleys) running east; you may board them on either Chester Avenue (#13) or Baltimore (#34), or Woodland Avenue (#11or #36).
- These lines meet at 40th Street and then go underground; the important stops (to you) are 30th Street, City Hall, and 13th Street/Juniper Street (end of the line) stations; you will come upon them in that order; to get back to the University from Center City, take the 11, 13, 34 or 36 trolley to 42nd Street; do not take the #10 trolley.
- There are 2 bus lines that run in this area: the Spruce Street bus (#42) that runs directly to Center City and the #40 bus that runs directly to South Street/Penn’s Landing; board at 40th and Spruce Streets.
